Call of Duty: Black Ops Announced, Coming Nov. 9

April 30, 2010 at 5:56 pm in Games, News by Felix Tatman | No Comments

Call of Duty fans rejoice! Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War, have unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops. The announcement was accompanied by a dedicated website and the promise of a teaser trailer on tonight’s GTTV with Geoff Keighley on Spike.

Activision, who are publishing the game, have made it clear they want to dominate holiday sales each year with consistent franchise releases. Call of Duty: Black ops does nothing to buck the trend, and is scheduled for release on November 9 2010.

Ending speculation that the game would focus solely on the Vietnam war era, Black Ops appears to confirm other quietly circulating rumours that the game would in fact revolve around  military operations conducted behind enemy lines, including fictional missions inspired by historical events like the 1980 siege of the Iranian embassy in London.

Just as Robert Bowling became the channel of communication between Infinity Ward and Modern Warfare 2 players last year, Josh Olin at Treyarch seems to be performing a similar role for Black Ops. You can follow his twitter feed here.

Watch Spike TV tonight to catch the trailer live or surf your way to GameTrailers.com to catch a rerun of the show. Check back with me later tonight where I’ll be posting my full impressions of the trailer.
