Online retailer of all things great and small Amazon is listing a price of just £32 for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the first day of its release, a sizeable £13 below its recommended retail price. The price cut reflects the stiff competition between retailers to capitalise on the game’s popularity.

Riding on a wave of hype after the quality of its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2 has broken a record by receiving the largest number of pre-orders in history at US retailer GameStop. While it is unlikely there are many gamers who have not yet received their pre-order copy or picked this up from high street retailers, this particular bargain is sure to entice stragglers.
